I was in the city of Bravil just after the festival of the Mad Emperor. I would have to say I rather enjoyed the festival. I entered the city of Bravil just after Midnight coming from the Imperial city. I was tired as you could perfectly imagine. I was greeted by the city watch as I
neared the city’s gates. He gave me a nod as I dismounted Mortus at the city’s stables and left him to do whatever he pleased.
I gave the guardsman a nod as I passed him to enter the city. Once passed him I pulled out a slip a parchment that had my contract’s orders written on it. I read my orders quickly and quietly as I was walking towards the gate. Once at the gate itself I casted a quick destruction spell to destroy my orders of Assassination.
I was awed at the site of the city once I had entered it for it had been a long time since I had been here last. I was here on a mission for death. So I needed to make my contact in the Bravil Mages Guild. But, before I could enter the guild hall I needed to change my attire from my common wear to my Mages Guild wear for I am a respectable member of the guild still.
Upon entering the guild hall I was greeted by a fellow mage apparently not the same rank as I but a member none-the-less. My greeter appeared to be a Breton as far as I could tell. I glanced at him briefly and I began to speak.
“Hello fellow mage I am Thanatos Crohaven, Wizard of the Mages Guild. I’m here to speak to Jephrau Henaul I need to speak to him about his experiments so I can place his document in our records.”
The Breton gave me a nod before he replied back to me.
“Well Wizard Crohaven as you can see he isn’t here he has been expelled from the guild due to those ‘experiments’ but, if you wish you may go to his personal residence and collect his notes from him.” Said the Breton mage.
I thanked him before I left to his personal residence. But, as I was leaving I began to think to myself saying if I get caught killing this fool I would be suspicious of killing him. So I decided to return and ask the kind Breton to travel with me to his personal residence. He gladly accepted my offer. I believe in hope of an advancement out of this guildhall and into the University. Yes, I’ll give him an advancement…
He took me out of town just out of site where the guards couldn’t see nor hear what was happening. I knew where I was going so I didn’t need this fool. So I let him get ahead of me on the road a bit so I could make my move on him.
I slowly pulled my sword from its sheath without making a sound like I was taught. I waited until he turned around to look at me before I struck. I rammed my sword through him like a spear through an enemy soldier. I could tell with his expression that he wasn’t expecting this at all. Which is all I wanted from this.
However, before he screamed I casted a silence spell upon him so I could finish the job. Once I felt the warmth of life leave his body I pulled my blade out of him a wiped it clean with his robe.
Now all I needed to do was discard his body and, I thought about this for a moment until I came up with a brilliant idea. Once thought of I grabbed his limp leg and a dragged his corps until I had reached the residence of Jephrau Henaul. I then placed his corps in a near- by bush wear I could find it later if I needed it.
Once I disposed of the Bretons body I approached the door slowly so I could gather my thoughts. As I knocked on his door I at first I thought perhaps he wasn’t home. But, then the door slowly creaked open with what seemed to be a frail Breton behind it.
“Jephrau Henaul?” I asked with my professional voice.
He gave me a nod and then said.
“Yes I am Jephrau Henaul. What do you need of me Ash-born?” he
asked in a rather stern voice.
At least I got my answer I thought to myself.
“Yes, I am Thanatos Crohaven, Wizard of the Mages Guild. I am here to speak to you about your membership within the guild.” I told him.
He gave me another nod in what seemed in approval of my coming. He invited me into his home shortly after a quick glance outside I guess to see if I was followed. I suppose I don’t blame him for his experiments are suppose to be secret but, no one hides secrets from the Dark Brotherhood.
I thanked him for allowing me into his home so we could speak. But, I knew this approach wasn’t going to go unnoticed for he quickly asked me what I wanted. I told him I was here about his membership. It was apparent to him that I was lying. So I told him that I was actually here to take his notes to the Arcane University’s library so they may be recorded. He told me he would be glad to give me his note once he’s done perfecting this ‘Magefire’ as he called it.
After a while of talking about various destruction spells he had tried I offered him a drink to refreash himself. For he was beginning to ramble about useless information in the arcane world which was just something I didn’t need to hear. He told me he would grab a glass for him if I was willing to supply the drink.
Oh yes, I was willing to supply the drink. Once his back was turned to me I pulled out a small vile that contained a poison that would kill him. I slipped the poison into the flask which I had on me at the time. The flask contained Brandy which I purchased in the Imperial City when I was at the festival.
He handed me his glass so I could fill it with the drink of choice. Once I was done pouring his drink he gulped it down as quickly as I poured it. I was happy when he did this for all I had to do now was wait until the poison took effect.
We had talked for what seemed an hour until he asked me out of the blue what my true purpose was. I had ask him why he ask me that and, he replied
“I saw you drag the dead body of a dead mage here, so you’re not a member of the university. So who are you exactly?”
I was asked a valid question and, the least I could do was answer it before he died.
“I am Thanatos Crohaven, Assassin for the Dark Brotherhood and I have come for your life.”
He laughed at me for a moment after I had said this, then he replied.
“How can you be an assassin for the Dark Brotherhood if I am not dead yet?”
Another valid question I thought to myself.
“Simple, I killed you 5 minutes ago…”
His eyes enlarged as I said this to him he was stunned at what I had said but, before he could replay to me he began clutching his chest in what seemed in pain. Good, I thought to myself the poison is taking effect as planned. But, before long he clasped on the floor dead I didn’t need to check myself for I could see the life fade away from his body.
I was happy with my progress so, I grabbed the body from outside and brought it in so they both could be burned.
Once both bodies were inside I gathered all of his notes and journals from his experiments then I went outside and I poured a liquid out from another vile that I had with me at the time. It took me more than one vile to go all the way around the building but this had to be done.
Once done and safely away from the building I said a magic word in my native tongue that caused the building to burst into flames. However, you could tell by the fire that only the house was being consumed by the flames and nothing else. This my friends is Arcane Fire a nice tool that I like to use. Once the building was done burning and the fire had stopped I decided to return to Cheydinhal to reap my reward.
