Hey there, folks. I'm finally getting around to looking around here more. I might be late, I might not be.. Either way, I got told this was the new hub, where as the old died. I wanted to take screenshot of my character in his glory, but.. I don't know how to in Oblivion. Whether this board is dead or not, I'd still like to know how to take screenshots of my character for future reference with other things and whatnot.
Any help appreciated.

We're not completely dead! We're...undead. Blarg, zombies.
Anyway, I don't have Oblivion for the PC, just for the Xbox. I do have Morrowind for PC. I know that screenshots are done with Print Screen button. Permayhaps it's the same?

I tried Print Screen button before. Doesn't work. I tried looking up ways to do it on the blessed intraweb, but it didn't help much. Something about .ini files and doodledoodi.weiufjwi scripts or whatever. Nothing I quite grasp the knowledge of.

Print screen does work, other wise how would the PC gamers make such awsome videos? Me I'm a PC and console gamer if I don't know it or if I can't do it I know who can. Anyway this is what you need to do. First press the print screen button on your keyboard. Then wait a few seconds and then paste your screen shot onto a new slide on Microsoft Powerpoint. Then there is a command on power point that will allow you to cut away parts of the picture that you don't want I.E. web address, other programs that you have up ect... Personally I forget what the command is called but, I do know this works because I just did this when I was playing WOW earlier today. If you need more help either Google it or PM me.

Oh, INI files right, right. They have that in Morrowind, too. I'll explain how it is in Morrowind; it's not very complicated. (It is probably very similar if not the same in Oblivion.) - Go into My Computer > C Drive > Program Files > Bethesda > Oblivion and there's a file that should be called Oblivion.ini.
- Open it, and it should open up a notepad file with all kinds of gibberish. That's basic code options that the game runs off of.
- Find one that says Screen Shot Enable. Its default setting is Screen Shot Enable=0.
- To enable screenshots, erase the 0 and put a 1. This will turn screenshots on. Don't change anything else in the file; you might mess up the game. Save the file when you exit it.
- Then, when you are in the game, you press Print Screen, and (in Morrowind) a screen pops up saying, "Screenshot# has been taken" or something like that. The picture files will be bitmaps in the same folder that the INI is in. (I think.)

I've looked through the ini. thing pretty thoroughly(at least I think so) and have only found something called "iScreenShotIndex=0" that at all resembles what I'm really looking for. I don't know if I should touch it or not, in fear of my game fizzling slowly like a fuse then imploding.

There is no "Screen Shot Enable" at all? That's weird. I looked at my Morrowind INI, and I do have a bit of data that says "Screen Shot Index". It's set to twenty-five.
Try using search (ctrl+f) to find "enable" or something. If nothing, then try setting "Screen Shot Index" to 1 maybe and taking a screen. See what happens.
(If your computer implodes...I'm sowwy.)

*twitches* Why, oh why, is the thing called option menu not in Morrowind?!
And yep, we're still alive. Also, yes, I don't have much to add.
*plays Morrowind on XBox*

While my pc didn't implode like intended, nothing happened. There wasn't even an interferance in the game by messing with that one number. I searched up "enable" but nothing helpful came up. Who knew this'd be such a pain.

Not even an implosion? Oh man. Well...I'm out of ideas then. Sorry. =( --- EDIT: Actually, I just checked UESP. Change bAllowScreenShot=0 to bAllowScreenShot=1. You also have to have anti-aliasing disabled.

I might have did something.. I might have not. I changed the bAllowScreenShot and Anti-Aliasing was already off on it's own in the game options. I took a screenshot but I don't know if it's somewhere or if it even exists. Nothing happened to.. acknowledge I pressed Print Screen. Did I do something wrong?

If your Screen Shot Enable is set to 1, which means on (and you saved the INI before exiting), then it should work. There should be a bitmap (BMP) file in the same folder (or so) as the INI file after using Print Screen.
(Also, change the Screen Shot Index to 25. I have no idea what that means, but that's what my Morrowind is set to.)
If nothing else, try reading through the UESP link in my last post. Maybe you'll find help there.

Nothing happened still. I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. I'm quite sure I saved it, as I checked both things in the ini thing three times and made absolutely sure I saved it, but alas, seemingly to no effect. I'll take a look at the UESP and hope for enlightment. Your help was appreciated.

Alas. I wish this was more simpler. I tried fiddling along with the UESP instructions, but I hardly understand what it means by the variables and what indexes should be what or the value things. Nonetheless, it seems it might be time to just put the subject down. Twas appreciated to have your help.
