((This is just a brief history/explanation of the Bruma sanctuary since obviously it doesn't exist in the game, so people have no way of knowing exactly what it's like. And since it's my sanctuary, I can make it be whatever I want. Muahahahaha! Oh... *clears throat* Anyway...))
You may, perhaps, have heard about the innerworkings of the Dark Brotherhood from certain various sources over time. If you have, then you will most likely have learned of the precious sanctuaries that serve as headquarters for the Brotherhood. Of course the most famous of these is Cheydinhal Sanctuary, located in the abandoned house on the east side of the city. But Cheydinhal is not the only city that plays host to the Brotherhood. There are other cities as well that honor the Night Mother's presence. Bruma is one of them.
It was decided by Sithis himself that the old and decrepit sanctuary of Skingrad should be destroyed. It had long since been abandoned, and he called for a new sanctuary and a new Speaker to occupy it. By chance, his choice reccomendation happened to be in Skingrad on the day the Listener Kalikir was sent to destroy the place, and so the new Speaker got to take part in the task at hand. The blaze was talked about for quite some time, but with the old sanctuary out of the way, it was time to start construction in Bruma.
The chosen location for the sanctuary was the house for sale, just to the right of the East Gate. The Listener bought it from the countess of Bruma, and handed the keys to its new Speaker, Lorren Zetharr. Though the house had no basement, that was soon to be rectified. The sanctuary was built underneath and within a few months it was ready for habitation.
Bruma Sanctuary is laid out much the same as Cheydinhal Sanctuary, with the training room and the living quarters facing each other across the main hall. A short trip down another hall in the back of the sanctuary leads one to the Speaker's quarters, with her Silencer's quarters right next to it. Access to the sanctuary is limited, with the only entrance being the trapdoor hidden near the stairs on the lower level. The sanctuary's main defense is a magickal alert system, which sends a blast of cold through the place if anyone enters through the creaky trap door.
When it was first build, the sanctuary was fairly empty. Only the Speaker, her Silencer Arax, and one or two Murderers occupied it. During the battle with the Tong, it played host to many Brotherhood members, as well as all of the Tong traitors, including Lorren's twin sister. Now however, the sanctuary is more barren than before. Its rooms are dusty, its beds unslept it. Only the Speaker resides there now, along with her new Silencer, the Khajiit named Qa-Dar. With Arax turned a vampiric deserter, many of the Brotherhood dead, and the traitors dead or missing (once again, including the Speaker's twin), Bruma's walls are filled only with silence, and the hope that Sithis' blessing may coat it again once more.
